Version 5.X Upgrade Credit Program
The LX800 board you have purchased qualifies for a one-time license transfer from a previously purchased XPE based product. It does not apply to the MS-DOS version 4.x, even if it is running on the Pentium platform. The version 5.x software license is available for purchase to upgrade from 4.x. Please contact Comet Electronics at 888-700-4214 or 816-245-5400 if you have any questions regarding licensing.
In order to take advantage of the “upgrade credit” on the LX800, Comet is required to insure that the LPM-TX board that is being used for the upgrade credit is properly “decommissioned”. This insures that Comet, as well as the end user stays in compliance with Microsoft, Interval Zero (Ardence), and Comet’s license agreements.
To receive this discount credit, within 45 days of receipt of your new LX800 Upgrade kit, the qualifying LPM-TX board being used as the source of the Upgrade Credit must be returned to Comet for decommissioning of its current license. The hardware will be returned to you. Contact Amanda Freeman at the above # or amfreeman@cometind.com for RMA procedures. Unless previously agreed to by Comet, if a qualifying board is not received by Comet within 45 days, you will be invoiced the cost of the software.
Going forward, all LX800 and new LPM-TX based systems must have the following license stickers to be legally used within your Railroad:
- Microsoft Embedded XP
- Interval Zero (Ardence)
- Comet RailNet Version 5.X
Why are we doing this?
Comet made this change based upon the request of our customers.
The LPM-TX products were sold by SAIC as “All in One” products. This means that the CPU and its associated boards were sold with the license charges built into the price of the board. The XPE and RTX stickers on the LPM-TX boards represent the software license of the product. The hardware and software were never sold separately.
As requested, starting with the LX800 product line, Comet now offers the hardware and RailNet AEI software as two separate products. This allows our customers to take advantage of the “upgrade credit”. If you already own an XPE based LPM-TX product, you qualify for the credit. Only the base hardware purchase is necessary.
The software license is available separately if it is required.
