APU-102 Test Set
The APU-102 test set (currently unavailable) is designed to enable one person to test a site without the need of additional assistance. The following is a description of how to connect the test set box and its use.
1) Remove the cable between the motherboard and the front panel board at the motherboard.
2) Install the 20 pin cable from the test set into the empty connector on the motherboard. The POWER and SYS LEDs should light just as the original front panel board LEDs were lit.
The left side of the box operates just like the normal front panel board of the APU-102. The right side of the box has two components, the Sonalert and the selector switch.
3) The selector switch is to be set to the operation you are monitoring. It controls the output to the Sonalert and the A/C outlet. The switch settings are:
Far left |
Sonalert and A/C output OFF |
Middle left |
Sonalert and A/C output for Lock 1 |
Middle |
Sonalert and A/C output for Lock 2 |
Middle right |
Sonalert and A/C output for WDA |
Far right |
Sonalert and A/C output for WDB |
Set the switch to the item you will be testing. If you are testing the RF, turn RF on per the instructions in the AEI System Site Installation Guide for the antenna you want. If you are testing a wheel detector, follow the instructions in the AEI System Site Installation Guide for testing wheel detectors.
4) To use the A/C power portion of the test set, plug the power cord into the test set and then into the A/C wall outlet. Plug a device, such as a drop light, into the outlet on the test set. The device will give a visual indication in conjunction with the Sonalert.
5) To extend the test set from the APU-102, install a straight through DB25 cable between the test set and the 3’ cable to the motherboard.
Other Test Equipment
Documents for other test equipment should be obtained from their respective companies.
Digital Volt Meter
RF Wattmeter (digital preferred)
- Forward element for 900 MHz band at 5W
- Reverse element for 900 MHz band at 500mW
Use is detailed in section 3.4 of the AEI Site Install Manual.
Loop Tester
The loop tested injects a signal onto the loop and displays its frequency. With a clear track, observe for drift in the frequency. A good loop will have a stable frequency. Introducing a large metallic object into the loop field will cause a frequency shift. Use is procedure is detailed in section 3.6 of the AEI Site Install Manual.
Tiefenbach Alignment Set
The Tiefenbach Alignment Set consists of an alignment plate and cable/light box. The plate will provide the switching level we want to detect and the cable will extend the TDA105 output signals to the track to facilitate wheel detector sensor height alignment. The Alignment procedure is detailed in section 3.5 of the AEI Site Install Manual.
