<p>This article provides a procedure for upgrading an APU102PG unit to an APU102 PGN with network communication capability.</p>

= Upgrade Procedure =
<p>If your site has maintenance reporting, contact the appropriate department and notify them that you are about to perform the Pentium upgrade on the APU-102. If you are unable to do the parameter dump and load or file transfers, they can do that for you. During the upgrade process, maintenance message will be generated. Maintenance reporting should be disabled until the upgrade is completed. Verify you have all materials required for the upgrade. If possible, check train schedule by the site and schedule the upgrade accordingly to reduce the risk of missed trains.</p>
<p>Note: The parameter dump, file downloads, and preparation of the Pentium card procedures that follow can be done prior to the site visit.</p>

<p><br></p>
1) Put ESD wrist strap on wrist and connect to ground lug on outside-bottom of APU.

2) Connect a laptop to APU-102 via the local port and get a current parameter dump of the site. Refer to APU-102 System Operations Manual, Section 4, and your communications program user guide if necessary.

3) Download any site-specific files (VIO.CFG, header files, APUERROR.DAT, flag files, etc) using the ZSEND command. (Refer to APU-102 System Operations Manual, Section 4, and your communications program user guide as necessary)

4) Verify trains that have been recorded have reported to all active sessions.

5) Power off the APU.

6) Remove the locking bar. (Loosen the thumbscrew and slide the pin toward the center of the card cage to release)

7) Remove cables to Pentium card in card cage.

8) Remove the Pentium card from the card cage.

9) Closely examine the Pentium card for current ECN and licenses.

b) Verify XPe license sticker is applied near the RTX sticker noted above or to the outside of J16 on the Pentium card.<p>License '''MUST '''be obtained if absent (additional charges may apply).</p>

c) Verify the IRQ6 pull-up resistor (surface-mount 10K with 30 AWG wire) has been added on the back side of the Pentium card. The board will need to be returned to Comet Electronics for this ECN if required.[[image:img1741346965335.png|450px|center|thumb|Figure 3: Pull-up Resistor ECN]]

10) Place Pentium card solder side down on a firm antistatic surface.

11) If upgrading to 5.1.1B101 or later, carefully remove the Startup ROM on the PSSD (top) board and replace with the version 5.4 Startup ROM supplied.

12) Carefully remove the Disk on Chip (DOC), U8 on the Pentium card and place in antistatic foam provided. It will not be used for network configuration. Retain for reversion to dial-up configuration if required. Refer to Figure 7.<p>'''NOTE:''' '''DO NOT''' pry against the heat-sink or permanent damage may occur.</p>
13) Remove the screws securing the PSSD card to the Pentium card

14) Remove the PSSD card, being careful to avoid bending pins of the PC104 interface.

16) Gently remove the PPM-10/100 card pin shipping guard and verify that all pins are straight. Straighten if necessary.

17) Install the PPM-10/100 card on the Pentium card being careful to properly align pins of the PC104 interface.

18) Install 4 nylon standoffs to secure the card. 19) Install the cat 5 patch cable to the PPM-10/100 card.

20)Gently remove the PCM-CFLASH2 card pin shipping guard and verify that all pins are straight. Straighten if necessary.

21) Install the PCM-CFLASH2 card on the PPM-10/100 card being careful to properly align pins of the PC104 interface.

23) Install the IDE ribbon cable to the lower connector J9 and to the Pentium card, J7. The cable is keyed for proper installation. Fold the IDE ribbon cable around the network cable.[[image:img1741308302035.png|500px|center|thumb|Figure 11: IDE cable installed]]

25) Secure the card with the screws removed earlier. (2-4 as required)

26) Install LPM-TX Pentium-N card combo in card cage slot formerly occupied by the Pentium card.<p style="margin-left: 25px;">Refer to the following figure for recommended card placement.</p>

27) If APU doesn’t have a NIC connector on the bottom right side (near the telco jacks), remove the pass-through jack for LINE 2. Install RJ45 pass-through in its place. The removed jack and cable can be left in place.

28) Connect the cat 5 patch cable to the RJ45 pass-through jack from inside the APU. (Labeled NIC or the one just installed)

29) Affix the “NIC” label over the LINE2 label if applicable.

30) Remove the cables to the COM4 card and remove it from the card cage. Replace with COM4N, p/n COM4A1124B, or modify the existing COM4. The Hardware Watchdog '''MUST''' be enabled. Verify the jumper J18 is installed. Verify UART chip on COM4 is Texas Instruments (TI). Replace if necessary. Refer to the document # 376-0018-00. Modify the COM4 for shared interrupt operation per document 376-0029-05

31) Reinstall the modified COM4N card.

32) Install the new IRQ-N cable supplied (CBL-151N-1124G) to the Pentium card, J4 and to the TDA 104-J3. There is no connection to the COM4N. 33) Reinstall other cables to COM4.

34) Connect the 50-pin header of cable #CBL-162-1124B to LPM-TX Pentium card.

35) Inspect/reset all other cable connections to make sure none have come loose during the upgrade process, especially the IRQ cable.

36) Reinstall locking bar.

37) Remove ESD wrist strap.

38) Power on the APU. The Pentium will take up to 5 minutes to boot up initially. A beep may be heard for a second boot-up (this is normal). (SYS LED on solid when ready)

39) Set the clock on the APU if necessary. (Refer to [[APU-102_User_Interface#Set_Date/Time_(*T)|APU-102 User Interface]]).

40) Edit any other parameters required for testing. (Save raw files, transaction logs, etc.) Refer to [[APU-102_User_Interface#Edit_Parameters_(EP)|APU-102 User Interface]], and your communications program user guide as necessary.

41) Upload any site-specific files downloaded earlier with ZREC. (Refer to [[APU-102_User_Interface#Xmodem_Receive_File_(XREC)|APU-102 User Interface]], and your communications program user guide as necessary)

42) Perform MR (Master Reset) with reboot option.

43) Log back into supervisory level and back up the current parameters with the “BP” command.

44) Inspect remainder of AEI site and correct as necessary.

45) Verify site is operational. Notify your network/communications department and/or Comet Electronics that the APU-102 upgrade is complete. Re-enable maintenance reporting if disabled above. If calling Comet Electronics, please provide site #, location, phone number of site and s/n of APU-102.<p><br></p>
